…the famous Teddy Bear is based on our 26th president, Theodore Roosevelt?

In 1902, a serious conflict erupted between Louisiana and Mississippi regarding their borderlines; with no solution in sight, the President decided to stop by the region to help the states resolve the issue. During his visit, he went on a hunting trip with hosts who also happened to be avid hunters -- one man thought it would be clever to capture a baby bear ahead of the time. The president would only have had to pull the trigger.

Alas, he must have felt a pang of humanity, for Teddy Roosevelt refused to fire the shot. The news of his action spread like wildfire thanks to word-of-mouth, and the cartoonist, Cliffored Berryman. One toyshop took inspiration and created the very first Teddy Bear.
