When you give a dreamer a world of choices…chances are they
won't know where to start. At least…I spent a good three days contemplating
this possibility.
If
I could do anything or be anyone and not have to worry about the consequences,
I would be a greeting card writer. Kind of like Tom Hansen in (500) Days of Summer. (You might know
him better as the character played by the handsome Joseph Gordon-Levitt.) It's
probably a little strange to want a seemingly insignificant job when the whole
world is in my hands, but I feel that greeting card writers are underrated.
This
Valentine's Day, instead of celebrating my single status, I took the
opportunity to spread love. I opted out on chocolates and decided to write my
three best friends each a simple card to brighten their days. I thanked them
for being a wonderful friend, told them I hoped our friendship would stay
strong for many years to come, and told them they were special, talented, and
beautiful. They all finished reading their cards with big smiles and gave me
even bigger hugs.
With
the new technology these days, it's so easy to get a hold of someone, whether
it be via Facebook, text message, or video chat. The more time consuming act of
physically purchasing, hand-writing, and sending someone a card via snail mail
suggests that a little more thought and love was put into the process. A well
written card can bring joy to anyone's day. I think it'd be fun to be the
creator of those simple moments of joy, to be the person who knows that their
work has helped bring happiness to others.
"Every
day, you make me proud. But today, you get a card."
